It's not easy being green - but looks fun trying!

BBC Website link - INEBG

I'm really chuffed to see that 'It's not easy being green' has returned to our screens. There's some chaps local to me doing a great job of self-suffiency in (bloody expensive) Bath, best of luck to them!

Greener Living Bath

All this green planning and eco scheming is a sign that spring is upon us once again and not too far away I can hear the sounds of many summertime festivals flowing over the hills in the breeze.

New project for the 'top field', a pond I think.

Lots of thinking to be done.

Insects and rodents

College - down the local woods, rodent trap setting in the morning then (empty) rodent trap collecting in the afternoon. Not to worry, the traps are baited and left open to encourage some activity to then surprise the little buggers at a later date!

A new addition to the 'top field' - Not too sure if this will work out. It's an insect hide (and not some strange alien creation) The flower pot contains a bedding of hay, two pipes protrude from the top and the whole thing is buried in soil leaving just the two pipers exposed. I've placed three of these in a soil bank facing numerous directions. They should provide a secure place for many insects - if they've read the insect book.

Lackham Lambing Day 2007.

'twas a freezing day, but enjoyable with many huffing and puffing sheep ready to burst. We arrived just as one lamb was born so luckily avoided the slime.
The college looked good filled with thousands of happy families and kids running all over the place, and all the animals behaved themselves.

Sheep fencing - without swords

Lambing Day is just round the corner, so with the delay of the pond digging exercise a few of us were on call to repair some existing fencing to keep the lambs safe (from tiny hands grabbing!)

Not all property developments are bad

Here's the latest addition to the 'top field' - I'm getting carried away with creating nest boxes and shelters for the local fauna. I should really be finishing essential college assignments!

The Bird Box

The Bat Box....will be a while before this gets used - perhaps mid summer.

Spring is definatly with us again.

Lunar Eclipse

Tonight saw much of the world become witness to the amazing event of a total lunar eclipse. This one had the added bonus of the moon taking on a shade of red caused by the Earths atmosphere which looked like planet Mars.
